I have finally decided to jump on the blog bandwagon, so here's my blog.
My most recent realization is that God's timing is so much different than my own timing. God has plans that I don't always understand and sometimes they frankly don't make any kind of sense at the time.
This past weekend, I went with Cade's family to the funeral of his mom's sister Faith in Salt Lake. We spent a lot of time with his extended family and it was nice to get to know some of them better.
We came back Sunday and in the middle of the week, Cade's dad's brother Kim unexpectedly passed away. So we started making plans to come back up to Salt Lake for his funeral this weekend. Then Thursday night at about 1 am, I got a call from Cade that there was a heart ready for his dad (who has been waiting for a heart transplant for over a year in Salt Lake). So, we both quickly got our stuff together and Cade picked me up as we prepared for the all-night drive ahead of us. On adrenaline and 5 hour energy shots we started the drive up as we contemplated God's timing and plan for all of the events in the past two weeks. As the long awaited finally had come and the reality of the situation sank in, mixed feelings of overwhelming joy, fear, anxiety, happiness, hope really arose. The trip was filled with prayers and thanksgiving to God. We finally arrived at the hospital around 10 am, a couple hours after the surgery had begun. We met with Cade's Dad's brother and a nurse approached us to inform us that the heart they had received had traces of pulmonary artery disease on it and it was not in good enough condition to be transplanted. Virtually running on no sleep we were all in shock. His dad had already been put under, but had not been cut open. So as he came to, he heard the news. Even though it came as a bit of a disappointment, he now has the chance to really grieve for his brother.
So, even though we don't always understand the timing of things, God definitely has a plan far greater than our own. We can be thankful that we know he is next on the list, so it should be coming any time in the near future and we know that he will only be given a strong and healthy heart when the time comes.
On a lighter note, we almost ran into a mountain on the way here that looked like a dark abyss, thank goodness for brights!!
God,
Thank you for all you do. Please help me to always see that your plan and timing are far greater than anything I could ever imagine, even if I don't always understand that. Thank you for the opportunity I have to really get to know Cade's family on both sides. Please be with Faith and Kim's families and friends as they grieve the loss of their siblings, parents, and friends. Also be with Al as he grieves and prepares for another shot at the surgery. Thank you, I Love You.
Amen
